"Press On" - My Thesis Film
Born with no arms or legs, Nick is an optimistic boy who believes himself to be just like the other children. It is not until he becomes the object of a bully's aggression and is literally knocked down that he is faced with his physical disabilities and how cruel people can be.
This is a film inspired by Nick Vujicic. I was inspired when I saw one of his speeches/talks. Despite the hardships that come his way, Nick still remains persistent and sees the good in life and keeps moving forward and that is exactly what I wanted my film to be about.

Nick's reaction shot at the beginning of the film.
When I tell people about the idea for my film, I get looks as though I am crazy. Most people do not know of such a person, as Nick, to exist. There were many skeptics about the idea for my film because it seemed too difficult to express the emotions of my character with no limbs. I was told that I would not be able to do this film successfully. However, that attitude was just the motivation that fueled my crew and I to say, "Yes, we can," and gave even more validity to the message of the film. My team of animators and I focused on Nick's core movement and facial expressions, in this character-driven piece.
Many of the challenges I faced throughout the couple months of making this film was trying to escape the aspect of "black comedy." The most difficult parts were the title and sound for the film. I needed a suitable title that expressed the goal of the film, without turning the viewer away or giving the viewer a reason to laugh. The original name for the film was "Life Without Limits," which came off too much like preaching, then the title progressed to, "Nick Stand," which sounded too close to "kick stand", but with help from my peers, we came upon the final title, "Press On."
